The Modern Bathroom
There are several new looks that are incorporated into the modern bathroom. New styles and designs tend to play off older styles, updating once beloved design elements to provide a more modern feel. Things like newly designed shower enclosures, vessel sinks, and fancy cabinets and and vanities can make your bathroom have a more modern feel and design. Creating a uniform theme will mean bringing in all of these newly designed fixtures and accessories.
Vanities
The modern bathroom vanity still serves the exact same purpose as contemporary vanities, but they have an updated style and new, more advanced storage options. For a more modern feel, darker colors tend to be used in the wood stains, glass or marble is typically used for the vanity surface, and the vanity surface is can be set up for a vessel sink. Vessel sinks sit on top of the vanity, rather than the traditional recessed sink you commonly see. This will require additional plumbing to make up the difference in height between the recessed sink and the vessel.
Vessel sinks come in a variety of styles and materials. The most popular are glass and porcelain, which look like large bowls sitting on the top of your vanity. Colored glass and porcelain means you can match your sink color to the color scheme of your bathroom. The vessel sink is one of the new standards of the modern bathroom.
Showers
When doing a bathroom renovation and creating a modern bathroom, many people opt to ditch the bath tub and move towards a much fancier and more space saving shower enclosure. These enclosures tend to have glass doors (sometimes frosted glass) and they provides a much more modern look. There are several different styles of shower enclosures, but for the more modern look, most people tend to go with a stainless steels and glass combination.
One of the other advantages of shower enclosure is the fact that you can install multiple shower heads. Many shower enclosures provide three or more shower heads to spray you with water at several different angles. You can also install a shower column, which adds multiple jets of water to your shower experience.
If you must have a bath tub (some people love their baths), the modern bathroom tends to use either a claw foot tub or a recessed tub. Recessed tubs are larger bathtubs, typically whirlpool or jet tubs, that must be enclosed in a frame. Most of these tubs are only tubs, and do not have a shower attached to them.
Marble
Probably the most expensive part of the modern bathroom, marble should be used if possible. Marble tile floors and walls can easily replace tile work for a better look and a more effective surface covering. Most modern bathrooms tend to go with a darker green or black marble to provide a sharper look and feel.
Colors
The color scheme of the modern bathroom is one of the most important aspects. While the contemporary bathroom tend to go for a lighter and more pastel color scheme, modern bathrooms take color in the completely opposite direction. The modern bathroom tends to go with a darker scheme involving stronger colors with strong contrasting colors and feels. Modern bathrooms will never have just plain white walls. Typically, the modern feel is achieved with the inclusion of a dark color (red, grey, black, browns, and blues) with a very bright contrast (a green, orange yellow purple). Everything in the bathroom will then work with this color scheme.

The Minimalist Bathroom
One of the greatest modern bathroom styles, the minimalist bathroom involve open spaces, including as little as possible in the bathroom. You will typically have a sink and small vanity, toilet, trash can, and a bathing area (either shower or bath). The lack of stuff means the bathroom is easy to use and has much more open space. Plus, you don't really have to worry about decorating that much since a majority of the decorating will be the paint and tile colors chosen. While the essentials are there, the minimalist bathroom doesn't have all the decorating frills you commonly find in most bathrooms.
